Abantu Energy

Consulted with company leadership to design a striking new corporate identity for their new fuel tankers.

Abantu Energy is a relative newcomer to the Energy Sector in South Africa. Owning and operating the Ener-Gi fuel stations throughout the region, Abantu began refining and distributing its own fuel just a couple of years ago.

For this project, Abantu had just placed an order for new fuel tankers to be manufactured by GRW, a leader in transport equipment, also located in South Africa.  The fleet consists of GRW’s flagship IMVUBU fuel tanker and Mercedes Actros L-cab trucks.

The goal was to creat something eye-catching, modern but not too overstated. Obviously the logo would be present, but our suggestion of color treatement and the pattern was exactly what the client was looking for.

Final Production

For the color scheme, the client wanted to go with a tanker color that is a staple to the Land Rover Range Rover SUVs called “Hakuba Silver”; a milky-white-ish silver that was just the right balance of traditional and luxurious. However, in a vehicle wrap, the closest we could find was a Metallic Silver in Matte – matte aspect being very important in toning-down the tanker’s reflectivity and effectively replicating the milky-white-ness of the Hakuba Silver.

While the project started in July 2024, the tankers only recently (Jan ’25) got the final wrap treatment as the manufacturing process had not yet been completed when this project ‘wrapped-up’. The client was kind enough to share photos of the final work, which can be seen below.

If you see one of these driving around South Africa, please snap a photo and share it with us! (IG: @slistudios)

Discovered on Behance

This project actually got started right on Behance. The client just happened upon a concept design we created for the Tom Thumb Food Stores fuel tanker design and reached out to ask if I could do something similar for their new fuel tankers. The project was run completely through the new Behance Inquiry portal, though communications were done via Email, WhatsApp, and Zoom.

"This is sick and looks awesome, I'm so happy with it!"
